Mount Samba network drive on sony android tV?

by spec84721

I have the Sony X800H Android TV. I want to mount a samba network drive at the OS level so that I can access ROMs with the RetroArch app, which doesn't have built in samba support.

Is there a way to do this at the OS level without root? I find it odd that apps like VLC and Kodi can access smb shares without root access but there seems to be no way to do it in the OS without root.

Not all Android TV os's are identical. On my shield tv there is a setting under device preferences->storage that says "mount network storage" and I can connect to smb shares from my unraid server with no issue. Does your TV have a similar option in storage?

I've been wondering the same thing. I've had this link bookmarked for a few days, but haven't tried it yet: https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/g7k0gg/mount_smb_folder/

Can't see why you'd need root access to do it as Termux is available to load. Anyway, let me know if you figure it out please.

Same model, same question.

I need SMB to play medias with built-in app.

VLC, Kodi, Nova, mx, etc plays without issue but they aren't being detected as "app (video)" by this TV. So no option to tweak MotionFlow.
