Amazon Firestick 4k vs Google chromecast ultra vs Xiaomi Mi Box S 4k

by Mountainking7

As title says. Already own an Nvidia Shield Pro 2019 but looking for a box on a secondary TV and not break the bank.

Ideally, wanted a box with Ethernet, Android TV interface, ability to sideload apps and USB.

If these are the cost of the devices SHIPPED, what would you get and why? I'm thinking of the Amazon Stick 4k....

Amazon Firestick 4k - $70 shipped (no ethernet, no USB)
Google chromecast ultra - $100 to 100 shipped (no ethernet, no USB)
Xiaomi Mi Box S 4k - $90 shipped. (no ethernet)

I heard the Mi Box lags to power a 4k interface?

Chromecast w/Google TV (NOT Chromecast Ultra) is going to give you the closest experience to the Nvidia Shield.

KlanxChile

chromecast with google TV probably best bang-for-the-buck,

simiwood

chromecast with google tv

It's not for everyone but I connected my second TV to my one Nvidia Shield TV through an HDMI splitter. Meaning my one Nvidia Shield can be displayed on either of my two 4K TVs in separate rooms, simultaneously or individually.

Works amazingly well with half the maintenance. One box for updates, apps, IPTV recordings, game installs and saves, etc.

So far I'm really happy with my TiVo stream. Keep an eye out and you could get one for $40 USD.

I use the Mi Box S with an ethernet adapter. I think it works fine for the price.

The Chromecast Ultra *does* have Ethernet, the power adapter has a RJ45 jack and that goes upstream via the USB-C cable to the device.

Firestick is best and probably you might get free prime video for some time. Also apple tv has some good content worth watching

Mountainking7

Thanks guys. Finally went for the Firestick 4k. I would have settled for a Chinese Box (with android phone OS) on it if I could stream Netflix on HD.

For everything else, the Cheap boxes work good.

It will be a stop gap until a new Shield or something amazing comes!

i wouldn't get any of those. i would get the tivo stream 4k. i just bought the chromecast with google tv and i kind of regret it because the new google tv interface sucks. i have the firestick 4k also and i rooted it and put different module and launchers just to make it look more like android tv. if you want to skip all the hassle, i would get the tivo stream 4k but i saw some reviews that playing youtube 4k has some drop frames

Re the CCUltra, the power plug for it has an ethernet port on it, it is a wired connection if you want to do so or you can do wireless. Do you need 4k or want to use Stadia on your second TV? If not, just go with $29.99 standard CC, you can buy the power plug with ethernet from the accessories in the Google store, choose the correct one, the one for the CC+GTV is type C and the Ultra and regular CC are micro usb.

CC+GTV sucks, fricken ads galore. I regret buying it.

Do you download pirated stuff? CCs don't have all the codecs built in. Every now and then I'll get file that they can't play. I'll have to use BubbleUPNP on my phone to transcode on the fly and stream the file to the CC.

I have only used the 1st Gen Firestick but I would skip the Firestick.

I would get a good AndroidTV box just for the additional codecs and functionality. A CC as a second choice. I get my internet from cell data as a result I try not to do 4k.
