What is the difference between a set-top-box that runs Android and had DTV, and "Android TV"?

I was under the impression they were the same thing... as in "Android TV = using android to stream, access play store, etc. on a connected [TV] display? I ask because my post about what I thought was an Android TV STB was removed by the mods of this forum citing rule that it has to be about "Android TV". So I am just wondering... if it's not on a magic list of Android TV devices, but it's running Android and streaming / using ATSC pass through, then who has most relevant knoweldge besides Android TV users and developers.... what subreddit would take questions if not this one? AV? Let's be honest, reddit mods are a controlling bunch who seem to be perversely incentivized against free flowing discussion but at some point there has to be a check on the stifling of legitimate knoweldge exchange. Not that I expected a lot as I also know that most reddit posts are quippy 2-second stuff... but occassionally someone with legit knoweldge feels like sharing.

Android set top box running android is a modified tablet version of stock google android....however Android Tv OS is a Tv functional operating system that uses android but is not based on the mobile version of android. Most chinese budget android tv boxes are made with the modified tablet version of android. While more uniquely devices like Nvidia Shield, Mi Box, Google ChromeCast Tv, Tivo Stream 4k and a few others plus some Sony Bravia Tv's, TCLs, HiSense, Philips and other manufacturers are using Android Tv OS and run Netflix, Amazon Video, and Hulu in HD and 4k as a bonus for some users

I had a cheap Chinese "Android TV Box" once. It was a very frustrating week. I couldn't send that thing back to Amazon quick enough. I now have a 3 Fire TV Stick 4Ks and a 2017 Nvidia Shield and everything just works as intended in HD and higher unlike the SD version of Netflix that cheap piece of crap used. I'm actually flabbergasted that there's an actual market for those things. I assume it's for users who don't know any better or just exclusively use Kodi.
