Just to clarify I have to reset it to the current date myself and also automatic date and time sets it to 1999 or something like that so I'm just wondering if this is a hardware issue or software issue. Thanks!

It could be an issue with your ISP or with your modem/router settings set with an incorrect automatic date and time with an incorrect time zone, if you can check those settings there.
