HBO Max "Oops Something Went Wrong"

by Tijnenzer

Hey there,

My Chromecast with Google TV just arrived and I tried to set it up, but HBO Max keeps saying that something went wrong. I have a VPN on my router and have an American Google account, so I don't believe that's the problem. I didn't have to do some weird trick to install the HBO Max app, I could do that through the Play Store. But now I can't open the app without the message: Oops Something Went Wrong. Did anyone else have this problem or have an idea how to fix this? I bought the Chromecast especially for using it with HBO Max, so I'm kind of bumped out that it doesn't work.

Thank you in advance!

Edit: I got it! As someone commented, the VPN on the router could be the problem and it was. Everyone that commented, thanks for your time and helpfulness.

Have they fucked up the DRM for Linux yet again?

My Pi-hole was causing this error in the past. I had to watch the logs and allow the blocked domains. Something else to check if you’re running a Pi-hole.

Whenever I open HBO Max with a VPN on it says that then they make me turn it off and then login again.

I've seen this error on both my CCwGTV and Apple TVs. I think it's a problem with HBO Max across all devices.

Edit: on second thought I've only seen it upstate where I have a crappy rural (200/10Mbps) internet connection through Spectrum. I haven't seen this error in the city on my FiOS gigabit symmetrical link. So maybe it's a bandwidth issue.

Hi, this might not get a reply as the post is old, but lemme just try.

I’m on the same big as you, VPN user also, how did you get around to fixing it? If you did at all
