If you don't know if it's worth then your android tv is probably good enough for you.
My suggestion would to buy a new android tv dongle/box once you start to hate the one itnegrated in your tv because it's too slow
I feel like hooking up a Chromecast with GTV is slapping a fresh coat of paint on a TV.
The nicest surprise is I never need the original TV remote.
I'll keep saying - If you're paying for Netflix already, you gotta pull the trigger on that Chromecast + 6 months of Netflix deal.
It's $90, but they gave me a $80 Netflix credit on your account. So it's basically a $10 entry fee on on the Chromecast device.
Minimal advantages for most users.

Which, I'm aware, the majority of these features aren't a concern for 99% of people and would be a waste of money for them.
I have a Philips TV and hot the Chromecast and much prefer it.
It's faster, Google Home can turn it on and it has proper Google Photos integration.
Both are running on Android TV, Google TV is just a skin UI with extra features such recommendations, live TV integration, Watchlist etc and I hope OEMs will update the current Android TV with the new skin.
None really. Underneath the skin they're both the same operating system.
Any devices that are running android tv and actually get updates will be on Google TV in the future.

Get an nvidia shield pro. It runs Android tv like a champ and is a great product.
Chromecast is faster. Smart tvs are crap with crappy processors and you're forced to deal with their updates from the manufacturer. I've even noticed ads in android tv on my android tv.
