Smart TV vs TV box (image quality)

by Marcosjcm0

Hi everyone, I just bought a 2020 LG smart tv on amazon, right now I have a 2012 LG. A question arose, has the image quality improved in native streaming from a smart tv? If I compare the Netflix quality of the 2012 smart tv, it looks very bad, dull colors and does not reach the sharpness that is seen with the xiaomi mi box s on the same tv. Right now I don't know whether to buy another xiaomi mi box for this new 4k TV. Thanks everyone for your help!

I have a 2020 Hisense H8G which has Android TV built in. The quality of Netflix (Youtube, Amazon, etc..) is exactly the same as the Roku HD box I have.

Newer TVs should actually have better picture natively. Especially when it comes to upscaling. Nvidia Shield 2017 for example had a horrible scaler.

Depends on the TV. Every TV does some post processing and/or upscaling if you are using it's tuner or smart tv software. So if your TV is good the picture will be better. If you are using an external box then you will rely on the post processing of that box, because the signal from the HDMI will mostly be untouched by TV.
