So, I just bought a Sony TV, and the remote connects via Bluetooth instead of IR. Which is nice, except that my soundbar only works via IR, so I need to use two remotes which is annoying. In the research I've done online, it seems there's a way to use an IR function of the remote to control a cable box. I don't have a cable box, but if I can turn on the IR function of the controller, I can program my soundbar to those signals.
Does anyone know how to set this up? I don't have a cable box, so I haven't been able to follow the steps I've found online.
This is my first time posting in this subreddit, if there's a better place to post this question, let me know.
It depends on if your soundbar is connected to the TV via HDMI in the CEC port, or if you have it connected via optical or aux out.
If it’s via HDMI you should be able to set the TV up to control it. However, if it’s via aux or optical, your only option is to buy a universal remote. Either a generic one, or some thing like a programmable One for All URC-7880 (we have this for our Sony and Bose system), a sofabaton, or Logitech Harmony.
Hope this helps
