Title says it all. Would like to use android tv but apparently nothing I can load on a pc (windows, linux, other; and android OS is only for phones). So I have to buy an android tv or a device like Nvidia Shield. I think that may be the best/cheapest option. Anyone know of a better way? I'm in the States.

No you can't so you need to add a device if you want Android TV. Tivo Stream 4k $50, Chromecast with Google TV, $50 As well as the two Shield versions all excellent devices. There are other lesser known ones out there also.
