Just got an Android TV for the first time. What are some of the “MUST HAVE” apps?

by Globoy76

I just got a Sony X900H the other day. It’s got an amazing picture and works fantastically with the PS5. I’m not much of an Android guy (I have mostly Apple devices). What are some apps for an Android TV that I’m missing out on? Why would I want to have this app? Thanks everyone in advance.

What do you want to accomplish? Pretty much the same video apps you use on Apple TV.

"Background apps and process" app to kill apps as Android TV has low memory.

Plex for local content streaming ( it has inbuilt dlna and Chromecast support too)

Xumo, Pluto tv and Sling TV, Haystack TV for free tv channel streaming!!

In Gaming can side load these apps Xbox XCloud, Stadia, Steam Link, PS4 Remote Play

Android TV remote app to use phone as Bluetooth TV remote

Apart from the normal Content streaming apps (Netflix, Plex, Spotify)

Iphones don't support Google Cast that Android devices use to cast media between devices, I could be wrong.

You may want to install Airscreen on your Android TV, this will allow you to cast from your Iphone to your Android TV using Airplay.

Normal streaming apps for whatever services you subscribe to. Netflix, Amazon, HBO, Disney, whatever.

Something like VLC or Kodi if you want to play local content or stream from a PC on the local network.

There are some legitimate apps that have free content. Mostly old TV, gameshows, some movies. Tubi, Pluto, IMDB

There are some news and weather apps if you're into that sort of thing.

Well I’ve got all the elegy apps like YouTube, Netflix, Disney + etc. someone told me about Beetv a while ago. I don’t think that’s a thing anymore. I dunno just apps that would be great on an awesome tv. I don’t know anything about Android.

Depends on what u need. I've got Netflix, Disney, YouTube, VLC, Sideload launcher, Puffin browser, X-plore file manager. I have (PIA) VPN installed as well.

I'm in the same situation, with a Klipsch Cinema sound bar and subwoofer. I have the Google TV Chromecast, but trying to decide whether to use it, or built-in Android TV interface.

In addition to the standard apps, I have MyRadar installed, but it's buggy with regards to location. I also installed a Sound Bar test app that is very basic, but fun to demo with.

Same TV, here.

Enable install apps from unknown sources. Get the downloader app. Type get.filinked.com. Once you have Filelinked you'll have access to stores. Youtube on ways to find store codes. Some have pins. You'll see videos showing Favorite Filelinked Stores for March for example. I'll give you a head start. Filelinked store 51829986. No pin. In that store alone you'll find any and every app you'll need. Once you get the hang of it start looking for more store codes per the example I gave you. You've just opened up a whole new world for watching anything you want including movies at the cinema, current TV series, old TV series. If there's 20 seasons you can start at season one. All free. TV will never be the same for you! Some day let me know how you're doing.

Great TV right? This has happened twice so far. It was in screensaver mode and I tried waking/change input. But when I did the remote didn’t work. Only the power button work. I couldn’t even restart the TV. After a few mins it can back but it’s happened twice in the week I’ve had it.

I have all the Netflix , YouTube etc. I use the TV as a second screen on my PC hardwired with HDMI 2.1 so I don’t need to stream anything. Just trying to get some good apps for just whatever. I don’t wanna pigeonhole myself into one genre.
