Any local media player that supports Dolby Vision?

by naveenjn

I have a Hisense 55A71F Android TV that supports Dolby Vision. I can get Dolby Vision 4K working on Emby and Plex clients but need a player that supports it for local content (as in from a flash drive connected to USB). I tried the following:

  • Native media player on TV - Supports Dolby Vision and HDMI passthrough for audio but no subtitle support
  • MX Player - Supports Dolby Vision if the decoder is HW but audio will be 2 channel only.
  • Nova Player - No
  • VLC Player - No

Any other player you know that supports local playback of Dolby Vision 4K?

Try "Just Player" It played DV content with mkv file on USB stick

I know that feeling. The native media player on the 1+ TV also suffers from the same issue. It has the best Audio Output but struggles in terms of subtitle support. So am sticking to playing through Plex Client for now.

I think you can play the local file using plex. If the inbuilt player is set to default, clear the settings, so next time you try opening the file in USB drive, it should list the apps in which you can play, try plex and check.

If i'm not remembering wrong, in MX Player you have to install external audio decoder in order to have multi channel decoding such as dts or ac3 due lack of licenses

Kodi and Exo - definitely, Vimu - possibly

I’m in a similar situation. Got the Shield TV and LG CX so both support it but want the better sound through my AVR. I’ve tested it working with Disney + so know there are no technical issues. Kodi doesn’t appear to have it. Plex does appear to have it but my old Synology server isn’t powerful enough to run it. VLC struggles with Atmos/DTS:X. Going to try MX Player and see if that works...

have you find the app to play dv with multi channels ?

Google Chromecast W/Google TV .. install Plex on it. It will support Dolby Vision and HDR10+ on a DV capable TV. and in Mp4 & MKV format. Chromecast WITHOUT G/TV will not. It's how I watch my content. The DV symbol or HDR10+ symbol displays on the TV. Sometimes there are issues with TrueHD Audio.. but that can be rectified by your TV settings to stop the "Plex Server is not powerful enough" message. OR swap to AC3 audio if there is dual audio in the media file.
