Hi Guys,
Current Setup - Sony X8000g Android tv - Wired to 1GBps Asus router
TV ethernet Port is capable of 100 Mbps only
Source - OLD laptop i3 4Gb ram 1TB disk over SMB shared. Clam shelled.
I tried PLEX but it gave me lot of issues, best setup which worked for me is SMB + VLC on TV.
Still Some higher bitrate 4k h264 stutters.
Currently I m planning on buying Synology 220+ (2GBps Aggregated Ethernetlink ) to replace my old computer as I m running out of the storage.
I know not a big setup, but I would really appreciate your thoughts on streaming with Synology on Sony Tv setup.
I have an X900E, and also had issues with 4k movies. I could not use the lan connection, it ended up being the bottleneck causing buffering streaming over SMB from PC to Kodi. I bought a decent router (RT-AC86U) and I get a wireless 700mB connection to TV. Buffering issues were gone. I spent weeks figuring things out, with buffering configurations, modifying PC, switching transfer protocols, replacing lan cable, all to no avail. Wireless with higher end router was the only solution that worked for me. Your synology setup could still be used, but if you have a PC on all the time, spend the money on an extra drive and use SMB. If not, synology is still a good option
When you try wireless, you must disconnect lan cable. I also learned that Sony has removed the drivers for a USB to lan dongle, so that option is out as well
