Changing aspect ratio to 4:3

by jappoman

Good morning everyone,

I've bought a mibox s and i've attached it to a 4:3 crt tv with an rca adapter... But the signal is still 16:9 and i found no way to change it to 4:3.

Do you know if it is possible? maybe with root?

Thank you in advance!

No. You most likely can't. And even if you could, most apps are designed for 16:9 and would break awfuly if forced in 4:3

Add some duct tape over the top and bottom black bars on the CRT to make it look widescreen. Problem solved.

I would guess they are emulating old school games.

Nothing is made in 4:3 anymore. If it was possible, it would have to be a zoomed in picture with lack of clarity and cutting off large portions of both side of the image.

Sounds like a bad idea to me. There is a reason tvs aren't made in that size anymore. Tvs are cheap now, just buy something wide-screen or deal with an even smaller image with black bars on everything you watch.

I'd just grab a cheap or free flat screen from kijiji or craigslist.

The only reason to have CRT these days is to play Duck Hunt

You could maybe use the zoom in function under screen settings. I'm not sure how much success you'd have with it though.

Consumer Audio visual equipment today is made with the assumption that the buyer owns some kind of widescreen/ 16/9 screen given their proliferation, cheap cost and the general death of 4:3 TVs outside of niche interests.

If I were you, look into getting a reasonably priced 16/9 flatscreen

I mean everyone loves to save money. But at a certain point you're just being cheap, go buy a used TV

It'd be nice if they supported ultrawide resolutions at least, but nope.

Everyone here missing the point... "go buy a used TV, you're being cheap" ridiculous. I'm sorry you didn't find your answer, I was looking for the same. I have Retroarch set up on an android box with composite out hooked up to a CRT, wanted to use it for emulating NES, SNES games etc as they simply don't look as good on modern TVs, even with the filters. The UI is the only thing letting it down. I was hoping there would be a simple fix where you could set a custom resolution / aspect ratio for Android, but I can't find a way. Let me know if you managed to sort yours!

I use my Jetstream connected to my 1985, 11" B&W TV, so I can watch my old B&W TV shows (this is the only way to watch those). It sits next to my New Vizio 65" wall mounted TV.
