Cannot find wifi

by sushiibites

Hi,

My brother has just bought TCL S615 series android TV and for some reason it cannot detect our wifi.

All other devices we have connect fine, and we’ve connected it through Ethernet however it can’t stay that way as it’s too far to run a cord.

Can anyone help troubleshoot this? I’ve tried a few fixes but have yet to get anything that helps.

It just doesn’t seem to make sense that all our other devices find it but it the TV can’t.

Cheers

What frequency is your wifi? 2.4 or 5Ghz?

The TV looks like it only has 2.4ghz from looking at the manual:

Networking:
WiFi integrated 2.4GHz 802.11 b/g/n 2T2R

You may need to check your routers setup page, you may not have 2.4 turned on.

Most devices for the last 5+ years have 5ghz compatibility so you wouldn't have known. However this TV doesn't appear to, likely as it's an additional cost and they don't feel it needs it.

As a temporary measure run a Ethernet cord. Get it to connect. Run any updates and perhaps them it will connect on wifi.

Restart the Router and check once too. Sometimes that helps.
