Need Help Playing HEVC Videos

by Disastrous_Dot_6176

I have a Xiaomi 4k 55'' Android TV. It can't play HEVC files but most of the 4k movies I download are HEVC x265. So is there any way I can play HEVC x265 Movies & TV Shows on my TV ? And I have some other questions also-

-Is there any TV which supports HEVC Codec ?

-How people play 70-80GB Blu-Ray files ? (I am not asking about official Blu-Ray DVD , I am asking about Downloaded Blu-Ray Movies )

If you want to know what your tv is capable of, please try a film from https://jell.yfish.us/

At least you'll know what video codec and bitrate your tv can handle. My suspicion is that it can all files just fine up until 160~180 mbit if you are using a usb stick.

What you didn't mention is:

  • what you are using as input (usb, network)
  • what the error message is
  • what player you are using to play the files
  • what audio encoding is used on your bluray files

The answer to these questions will help people answer your question.

Try a thrid-party video player on your Android TV first. If you cannot find a proper video player to play your HEVC videos, a quick solution is to convert HEVC to H.264 with DumboFab video converter. With it, you can easily encode and decode H.265 (hvc1/hev1; Main, Main 10, Main 12; Level 4 - Level 6.2) to H.264 encoded MP4, MOV, MKV, etc. with virtually zero quality loss.

Just have a try.

I own a Sony xe90 from 2017/2018 ant it plays hevc files just fine. Anything except Dolby Vision files are supported. I prefer to use MX player or Kodi to play video files.

You can try Kodi or Archos Video, but be sure to download Codecs for Archos aswell, both on the playstore. T

Some TVs claim they can play hevc videos, but they actually play a limited range of it.

Did it say on the product description that it can play x265?

Also, how is downloaded blu-ray movies 70-80 GB?
