That's so weird, I've been using MX player on my Android devices, Bravia TV, shield TV, Nexus player, etc. I've never come across this issue before.
I have the exact same issue on my X900H. I tried to adjust different settings here and there, but in the end it was all useless.
Use VLC and everything is awesome

What hardware are you using?
You can zoom horizontally and vertically manually and make it fit if you really must
