I'm just curious how SmartTubeNext blocks the ads, is it sending it through some kind of Proxy? I have YaMon installed on my router and it is never able to record the bandwidth being used when playing youtube through SmartTubeNext.
If I stream anything through any other app on my Google Chromecast with Google TV it records the bandwidth usage just fine., just not through sTube.
Since the app is built from scratch, it has no code to even request or display ads, so it doesn't actually block ads, it's completely ad free. It uses YouTube's own API's to directly fetch the video URL's and play them within its own built in player. It's essentially an unofficial ad-free YouTube client.
I don't know what is YaMon and why it is not recording traffic, but the way in which ads are skipped is straightforward: ads are played into the browser and in the official app becausae there is code (usually javascript) that loads them, SmartTubeNext doesn't have that code and play the stream url directly.
I use this app on all my android boxes. I can’t stand YouTube app due to all the ads.
