How to sync a folder between my laptop and android TV?

by bskiran

I have downloaded some movies on my laptop and I want to watch them on my tv.

Currently, I use Sendfilestotv app to send movies from my laptop to tv. But this a lot of work.

I am looking for an app like Syncthing which syncs files on my laptop and tv over wifi. With something like this, everything happens in the background, I need not do anything.

My tv has 32GB internal storage, so storage in tv is not a problem.

One can use hdmi cable to play movies on laptop on tv. But I don't have hdmi cable. Also, I don't want to keep my laptop turned on during this process.

Use Kodi to play them directly from the PC. No need to transfer files back and forth.

Download xplore to the TV . You can make a lan connection to your pc and can view your full file system and play files from there. Quality will depend on your connection/cables etc.

I use VLC to play videos on my TV

  1. Both PC/Laptop and android tv has to be on same network.
  2. Media Sharing permissions to be turned on in PC/Laptop.
  3. Sharing has to be enabled for that specific drive/folder.

Easy and simple way.

It has an added advantage also, I can share and access files of that drive/folder from my mobile or from another PC too.

Edit: You don't have to install sever / client apps. Just install VLC player on android tv

Um, just sideload the synching APK (if you can't install it directly from the store) .

Or install an FTP server on the TV device. I use FTP server from Banana Studios.

Plex

Install Plex server in your laptop, Plex client on the TV.

Import your movies

Success.

Unless the movies are in foreign languages, much better solution would be installing something like cinemahd or syncler on android tv, and you can stream content directly without the need of downloading, copying, or syncing files..
