WTF is going on with YouTube?

by TheApplefan94

So this is kind of a small rant but ultimately have a question at the end, if its allowed. I have a nice Sony Bravia with Android TV and love it, also have an Xbox one as well. Contrary to the marketing wanks the Xbox is a terrible "All in one" entertainment device as literally no app is optimized for the system, so it shits the bed regularly with everything streaming.

Now to the TV, Netflix is amazing with the Dolby vision on it, streams perfect, no stutters or buffering, Disney and even Hulu do great when I find those to crap out on the good ole Xbox. Also my phone streams 4k over YouTube all day on my network, no lag or anything. So I'm almost certain there's no network issues, as literally every other option is doing fine.

But that fucking YouTube. Always lags, doesn't want to load, have to back out and reload only to watch ads again for it to fail, again. 4k is pretty much undoable and about 20 minutes into watching I'm barely holding on at 720 or even 480. It's shit. Same story on the Xbox

So my question, I've had it, I'm ready to spend coin on a dedicated streaming device ONLY for YouTube IF, and only IF, there is one that it's optimized on very well. I'm not sure such a device exists, I just want to watch good 4k content on my good TV and good internet and not deal with the bullshit anymore.

Anybody have suggestions?

I didn't have your problem but my problem was ads. That was excellently solved by side loading Smartube next. It's a less refined app but works well for my use case. Perhaps it would help you also :)

I hope you vent all that rant about YouTube on its feedback page, there you can report every single problem you find in the app and believe me, they will take it into account for future updates, I've seen it happen...

Maybe you can install/sideload SmartTubeNext on your TV as a good alternative to Youtube App. It also blocks ads very well. Couldn't hurt to try. Possibly the original Youtube app is causing conflicts. Apps do tend to have bad updates. You could also try to downgrade the version of Youtube through Aptoide?

If you have Netflix, Disney and Hulu then I would go for the Google Chromecast with Android TV. I have it because my TV couldn't fit many apps on and is old. YouTube work's fine and even has it's own button on the controller, as does Netflix.

And with Android TV you don't have to swap from 1 app to another, the home screen displays what is available to you, so quite alot with you current subscriptions. And it learns what you watch so the recommendations are better.

And considering it's made by Google, this should be the most reliable device for YouTube.
