Slow network speed on Xiaomi Mi TV P1 Series 55”

by UndisclosedSum

I recently bought the newly launched Xiaomi Mi TV P1 Series 55”. This has 100Mbps Ethernet port and 802.11ac WiFi. I tested the download speed using following connections but I’m not getting more than 30-40Mbps. Any ideas what could be wrong?

  • Ethernet connected to 1Gbps switch port.
  • WiFi connected to 802.11ac supported SSID.
  • USB to 1Gpbs Ethernet dongle (Apple branded). This dongle gets detected automatically as Ethernet on this TV’s Android OS.

With download speed of only 30-40Mbps, this TV is unable to smoothly playback any 4K videos from local NAS.

What's your internet speed? If you have 5ghz wi-fi, does the TV connect to it?

Also, it's "Gbps" and "802.11ac"

Streaming videos from the internet is slightly different than streaming from NAS.

  1. If you play a 4K Youtube video, does it play in 4K(ish) resolution?

  2. (a) How are you playing videos from your NAS? i.e. Directly plugging in NAS to TV, over WiFi/Ethernet via app

  3. (b) Are the 4K videos encoded in a supported format/codec?

Just bought it too 55" with the intention to use steam link app , and stream content from local NAS I plugged Ethernet first without even thinking of wifi , cause cable is the way to go while latency and speed are critical right ? Wrong , from what I tried i can say that both Ethernet and wifi have high ping , computer on the same cable which tv was replacing had always <1ms ping in steam link app stats and P1 is ranging from <1ms to like 5ms on cable and slightly worse on WiFi So basically unusable for game streaming

As for bandwidth i noticed Ethernet to cap in bandwidth test at about 30Mb/s while wifi 5GHz with router next to tv at about 80Mb/s and router floor above at like 35Mb/s Some 4k movies played fine on WiFi but were buffering on Ethernet

So in conclusion wifi is being wifi , no problem with that. But the Ethernet implementation in Mi Tv P1 55" is a total joke , shame on xiaomi for not even delivering half the speed of the in spec 100 port and getting latency same or over that of wifi I wouldn't be surprised if inside of it are same components as the cheapest no brand USB 2.0 to Ethernet adapters , unusable

Gonna return it fast , and try something like TCL 715 , maybe they will have low latency Ethernet

Hey, how are you finding the P1 for gaming? Any noticeable input lag?
