I’m trying to decide between a Samsung Smart TV or TCL Android TV - the TCL is QLED, so better quality than the LED Samsung I’m looking at, however Samsung is winning me over with the Ambient mode feature. I’m not very familiar with Android products, so trying to find out if there’s an app I could download to the Android TV that would give a similar result. Can anyone help?
Unless you are going to use some of the more specialized Android TV apps buy the best quality
I have a TCL 6 series QLED, the picture quality is top notch, you won't regret it. A Chromecast with Google TV will do great for you
I bought a Phillips with built in chrome cast. Excellent picture for a 398.00 tv. I like it except for the customization, there just isn't much and that's fine for the price but the remote is huge and every time I go through my apps it dings on each one and there's no way to stop it that I've found.
I know I can just GA to launch them but I'm an old fashioned guy, and hate talking to a tv that misunderstands me a lot. GA on my phone works perfectly almost but not the tv. Anybody know how to disable the dinging.
Play with them first. For me even though I'd like android over tizen because of how much you can get out of it I found the TCL to be slow and clunky when driving it. The Samsung would be smoother to use, also, if it's a AU9000 the picture on it is better than the QLED TCL's I feel
I have a TCL with android tv and when not watching movies it shows random art pictures from the android app "arts and culture" with paintings data, hour and current weather. And being android your can install easily a lot of different apps and games without using external boxes (even your can install APK files). I even use my tv to watch IPTV or play SNES and PS1 games, so your can imagine how much games your have available to play through the TCL tv. (Sorry for my spelling, I'm from Chile)
Samsung's advertising practices w/r/t ambient mode are super deceptive. Was told my model is not able to display images I upload myself even though "My Album" is an option and Samsung's ad copy doesn't say anything about that feature not being on specific models. A lot of the other features don't work as advertised also. I think all the info on ambient mode seems to be talking about the Frame model, even tho it only really says that the Art Mode is exclusive and the other stuff should be available on any TV with ambient mode. I wouldn't recommend it; they are selling a dream and the real TV is nothing like the ads imply.

Don’t compare smart features. Compare picture quality. You can always get a streaming box to give you same or more features.
