How to activate ADB on Onn TV?

by IOTinterest

Hi,

Sorry English is not my mother language.

Here is my question, I Buy an Onn android TV (not device), it runs Android 7.0, I want to integrate it with Home Assistant but all required steps does not work on this device, no developer options and no way to activate them, it came with a custom app store and does not have settings app. Is there a way to install settings app in order to activate ADB on this TV?

Thanks in advance.

Go to settings and tap on about until it says developer is enabled.

I'd like to make a suggestion that you return that TV and buy a non-smart tv instead. Then you can buy a cheap onn streaming device for $30. Android 7.0 is extremely outdated and a lot of apps won't work in the near future.

Have not tried that specific box.

Typically you just go to settings /about / system info /. And click on build number 8 or so times until it unlocks dev mode.

Then return to the main settings menu and you should see developer mode. Go in there and turn on USB debugging. ( For many Android TV devices this also turns on wifi debugging)

Then on your PC just do: cmd > adb connect ipaddyofbox

(Or use an app from your phone such as bugjaeger pro, which is a great ADB gui for Android phones )

For boxes. Where tapping on build number does nothing,. Try side loading one of the apps found regular android play store that can launch the dev mode screen directly. should let you go and enable USB debugging.. if that does not by default, also enable Wi-Fi debugging,. You may need to enable it manually through USB adb. You would need a USB A to A cable most likely and connect your box to your pc the first time.
