Do you play games on your Android TV?

by playcentgames

Do you use your Android TV device to play games? Which ones did you enjoy? Did you notice any issues with performance or everything went smoothly?

I am doing research, would be very grateful for your sincere answers!

Red Dead Redemption 2 on Google TV via Stadia. I have fibre. 1gbps, 6ms ping. If there is any lag I have never seen or felt it. It's the only game I own on Stadia. Was just really curious about it. My Googletv uses the word ethernet plug, I don't like permanent things using WiFi.

I have use Xbox game pass to stream the Xbox to the device, that works brilliantly...

GeForce now and Stadia. No issues beyond they ones that go with game streaming.

I use the steam link app on my shield to stream stuff from my PC when I just want to sit in my lazy-boy and chill. It's very nice for stuff like flight sim where you just want to sit back and relax.

I play with some emulators and a gamepad with no issue.

I sometimes play with my ShieldTV:

  • console emulation (which it's pretty decent at - lower-powered Android TV devices aren't).
  • a few controller compatible titles from Play Store.
  • local streaming from another PC using Steam Link for certain games I don't mind playing with a controller.

Remote streaming services aren't viable for me:

  • At the moment, there are no such services hosted in "local" data centers.
  • I'm picky about latency.

There's this emulator app called Redream for Sega Dreamcast games that I wanted to try but got overwhelmed with the setup process.

Emulation. So much emulation. I have emulators for like 15 different consoles.

Also, I have PS Play which is an app that lets you stream PS4 and PS5 to Android TV.

I do occassionally. Medium to heavy graphic games like Asphalt do struggle to play smoothly, keep having frame drops in between... But playing arcade games is fun. My fav are Oddmar, Star Force Anniversary, Ski Safari2, Dead Trigger 2, Mouse bot, Orbia, Jungle adventures 2. You can check my Video to see how they perform on Android TV

I have a ShieldTV, but when I game I nearly always use emulation.

I thought I would, but I don't.

Mainly, because I can't get RetroArch to see my SMB share that housed all my ROMs shared from my home server.

Never done that. Don't have a reason to.

If one wants to play games, they're better off getting a console such as an Xbox or PlayStation. They have all your streaming needs covered.
