Android phone as android tv?

by aryan069

I had an old s10+ with an broken display, so I decided rather than just throw it way; if I can use it as an android box, it should be more then enough powerful to render 4k and run most android apps and games.

So I got an USB c to hdmi; and it works perfectly fine. And for remote I just use my ds4 controller. The one and ONLY issue I have is the UI, it was obviously designed for touchscreen so it is kinda hard to navigate and the experience isn't as smooth as it could be.

So I was wondering if there's any way to install google tv os on my android phone? They both run android so I don't see it being impossible. And my galaxy s10+ hardware should be wayyyy better than any android box.

You could try to use dex instead

Wouldn't it just be easier to recycle the old phone and buy a dedicated streaming device preloaded with the Android TV OS?

Install lean ack launcher. It's an Android TV like launcher.

Sell the old phone. Then buy pretty much whichever box you want. you can probably still get upwards of 200 bucks for an S10+ with a cracked display

You can't install AndroidTV on your phone... You probably just need a new launcher... Take a look at different launchers.

For example https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ca.dstudio.atvlauncher.free

You won't be able to install "Android TV OS" onto it, not the official one anyways. However, you might have some luck with launchers, or other similar skins that are used for generic China set-top Android boxes.

Android TV is not open source, so you can't install it on your phone.
