Google Play store question

Hi all, I work for a school and we’re looking at putting TVs in to display when students make certain achievements. We specifically want to use an app that’s on the google play store.

Are the apps that are available on the android TVs limited to streaming channels or can I theoretically download any app that’s in the play store?

Directly from the PlayStore you can only download apps that are built for AndroidTV. But you can always download the APK and sideload it, but it's not guaranteed that it will work well.

Apps aren't necessarily limited to streaming but they are limited to stuff that works on Android TV devices. What app were you looking at?
