Chromecast Google tv remote frozen. Android tv remote App doesn't seem to connect. My chromecast Google tv is atm unusable. What should I do?

The physical remote has its led light pulsating. As far as I know, the only way to fix it is to re-pair it. But for that it requires me to make use of the android tv remote app to navigate to the settings in my Google tv. (Few months back had the same issue and fixed it that way). For some reasons now the app doesn't seem to connect/discover my Android tv/s in the same network.

Is there any alternative solution to this? It's killing me really. I'm in Germany. I have a suspicion it's related to Google's development of the google tv remote App. Anybody with any insights into this?

That app is no longer supported. Now you use Google tv/Google play movies app for that. There were plenty of guides about this new change on this sub in recent days

If you previously enabled HDMI CEC control, you can use your TV's remote to control the CCWGTV

The alternative is to use a split Y OTG cable so you can hook a physical USB keyboard to it to navigate the menu

This happened to me too, at first I tried going through the app and it didn't work either so I had to get a type c dongle to plug a keyboard into and then I disconnect and reconnected the remote through the settings. Now the remote randomly stops working for a few seconds, and the IR buttons don't work at all. Honestly just regret my purchase at this point.

SOLVED:

  • Downloaded and installed "Google Play Movies & TV" app in my phone.
  • The TV remote then gets added to the drop down menu of ur phone, or ull need to edit the list and bring it there. This remote doesn't appear in the app itself. This was what I couldn't figure out at first.
  • Clicking on the tv remote tile in the drop down menu then takes u to the remote app.
  • Connect the tv to the app.
  • Navigate using this remote app and re-pair the physical Chromecast with google tv remote.

I also acknowledge that Google TV remote download is not region-specific. I am in Germany and I got it working here.

Unfortunately installing the app Google movies on my samsung recent (2020) tablet didn’t resulted in remote control from the tablet. Maybe it only works on smartphones? Anyway, a hard reset from the chromecast did the pairing trick. Frustrating because it took quit a while. But happy the remote works again.
