Bloody finally
Love Google TV
Well, this feature arrived on my Chromecast. Not a fan.
I tried to cast a YouTube video from my phone and I get a popup on the TV asking which account to use. No way to pick from the phone. Had to go find the remote.
And it doesn't just keep using the one you picked. It asks every time.
I only have one email address associated with it, but it has two YouTube accounts. Back in the Google+ days I didn't want to use my name as my YouTube account, so they converted it to a "brand" account. And when Google Music converted to YouTube Music they wouldn't let me use that account, so I had to make a new account under the same email address.
Pretty obnoxious so far.
Will Google TV update come to 2017 Sony TVs ? This feature will be super helpful for family usage!
FINALY
The big question is if the Google profiles can hook into individual app profiles.
The problem is kid/adult profile or not, the individual app has no idea, and usually brings up it's own profile selection.
Inconvenient, and especially problematic with kids profiles. Parents have two options:
Terrible design.
Oh yeay. I just ditched Fire for Google TV and our only complaint is the lack of profiles.
The new chromecast is amazing
Going head to head with Amazon?
But will it be the same lame, useless watchlist feature?
Do we know if these features are getting backported to Android TVs like the Nvidia shield as well?
I guess this might work best for a shared college roommate TV or something. I have a hard time imagining how OS level profiles would be much benefit in a family setting. Especially if it changes what apps are installed or how they are logged in.
This sounds like an absolute nightmare for anything but Shield owners. And I say this as a Shield owner, but also, more importantly, as an owner of other devices.
The Chromecast with Google TV, for example, has 8GB for non-expandable storage. How much do these supported TVs have?
Google said that any downloaded apps and credentials can be used across different profiles.
I can maybe fit 8 or so apps on my CCwGTV assuming none of them have updates. What happens if my wife wants to use 8 different apps? What about people with roommates who might not share as many services together?
This part in particular will suck for everyone unless they perfect integration into every single app, which they've failed terribly at so far.
Google TV is making finding something to watch in a multiuser household a whole lot less chaotic by adding custom profiles, watchlists, and personalized Google Assistant help
Ok so I need to sign into my profile to get into my TV, but then what happens? The watchlist integration isn't exactly great so if I go into an app that I currently have multiple profiles in (Netflix, Plex, Disney+), is there an association I can link to my TV profile? If there isn't than I can only see this adding to the chaos that is watchlists and not removing from it.
Are the personalized profiles also called 'Google Accounts'
From the start why did no one at Google ever suspect that TVs are fucking shared devices?
About damn time.
