TV can't update?

by MonsieurRud

I have a Sony Bravia Smart TV thats probably 4 or 5 years old or so. Recently it had begun to be a bit buggy and I noticed it was only on Android 7. It says its updated to the latest version if I try to update manually. There is also one or my streaming apps that won't work because it says the android version is out of date. Does anyone know if there's a way to update it when it can't find the update itself? Or is it like phones where they stop supporting the TV after a few years? This would suck since a big 4k TV like this is quite the investment for us.

yes is similar with the smartphone

the update to new version must be hardware compatible too , check in sony forum if they release a upgrade

On our Bravia tv, I ended up getting a TiVo stream 4K to upgrade the experience. There’s a hotel/expert mode you can use to pretty much disable the built in android tv on the bravia. I have it set to automatically turn on to the hdmi the TiVo is on. Night and day difference, the TiVo is much faster, and on a newer version of Android.

You can use a streaming device that's more current.

Take a look on the Sony website to see if there's a more recent ROM for your TV and apply it manually with a USB stick if it exists. Sony OTA is a pile of shit.

Can confirm that my 2015 Bravia is on 9. Try a hard power cycle (unplug it for 2+ min). Sometimes that is needed to get it working again.

That said, it is really slow compared to anything modern. Just get a Shield or Google TV dongle and you will be happier.

I have a 2016 Bravia that's on the latest version, pretty sure I had to use the USB method at some point though. Use the Sony support website to find your model and grab the download.

Google your tv model . At a guess I don't think that it might not be anymore updates for your model since it is 4 years old.

I don't know if your TV is one of the following, but I read once that some Sony TVs had a bug in one of the versions of Android that prevented them from finding the latest update. You should be able to look up the exact model number on the Sony website to do a manual update if that is the case.
