Mac won’t recognise google tv external storage device

by leonidude

I’ve just set up my new chromecast with googletv and in the process, I was asked to format the connected flash drive (via a USB-C hub). I’ve done this before so I pressed format with the intention of later connecting it to my computer to transfer roms, apk’s etc. Problem is my mac won’t recognise the drive 🤦🏻‍♂️. The strange thing is, prior to formatting it, it was connected to my Mac as I was backing up files from my old google tv.

How do I get my Mac to recognise the USB drive so that I can transfer files to it? I don’t have access to a PC right now.

When formatted as device/adopted storage instead of removable storage it formats it in such a way that it can only be read by the device it was formatted on. This is a security feature as it prevents private/app data from being read.

You can put the files on a network share then use something like FX file explorer to copy them across

You could try formatting it as a FAT format. It should be in disk utility when you are formatting it. If that does not work then you should try the other user’s idea.

Format it FAT32 MBR (Master Boot Record) for maximum compatibility. I recommend connecting your media drive to your router, that way you can access it from all devices on your network.
