This seems like it would be software calling for the assistant to do something and negating to filter an error response. Could be a routine or an installed application.
My recommendation is this
Reset the tv to factory.
Create a new gmail account (use this as a diagnostic account)
Login to the tv with the new account. That way it is not trying to download any previous apps attached to the account since it doesn’t have any. This should also keep it from being part of your ecosystem of devices. Allow no one else to sign in for now and download no apps or services.
Leave the tv like this for 48hrs and see if it still screams at you at some time. Maybe set up a camera when you’re not at home if you have a GoPro or something laying around. If it still has the problem, it’s the google service or tv itself and nothing on your end.
If it doesn’t do it, you may want log back into your regular account and dig through any services you have on the TV and start removing them until you find the cause.
Edited for clarity
This sounds like your problem OP, just manifesting in Sony TVs which also use Google Assistant. The recent comments make it sound like it's increasingly common.
My wife was sending a video chat while it happened, so now we have a recording of it too as you see here. You can hear me in the background, quite excited that we solved the mystery. We also found out we're not the only ones having this problem: https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/q4ewk5/android_tv_screaming_something_went_wrong_please/
As a temporary fix we've set the TV on an outlet timer so its turned off during the night so we can get some peaceful rest. We already tried doing that on every Google Home speaker in the house, but we still heard the error said at full volume, even when the speakers were turned off.
I've been going crazy trying to find a solution or even anyone else that has this same problem for the past month. We still don't know what exactly is causing the error or how to fix it, but at least now we have an idea where to start.
The TV we have is a 50" Phillips Android TV. We have multiple smart speakers (Nest minis/Google Home) in the house, have 1 wifi router+modem on Xfinity and lots of other devices on the network. We don't have any routines for 4am, and the voice hasn't always come on at exactly that time. Usually it was between 4-5am, but it happened at 1am and 4pm recently.
If you have had this problem with your smart TV or if you know what might be going on, please chime in.
Try taking batteries out of the remote if it has a mic.
Also check the TV uptime when this happens. If it's only been a few minutes then you'll know the TV just rebooted from sleep.
Router uptime too, for the same reason.
those are the longest eyelashes ive ever seen. can she use those as wings?!
really sorry for the unrelated comment. lol.
remove the batteries from your remote. or is the remote potentially stuck under something that is depressing the mic button?
It was the TV, it was the TV! Did you hear that?
It could be the Routine feature. Some are enabled by default. Download the Google Home app and check the Routines section, and see which one is triggering something at 4 am.
Cool. So sexy.
Where’s that gif of the guy throwing his computer in the dumpster when you need it
