I’ve made an app for controlling Philips Hue smart lights from your Android TV remote. Looking for feedback!

(Sorry mods if this breaks any rules, feel free to delete)

I’m hoping people might find a little app I’ve made called Hue Shortcuts useful and I’m eager to get some early feedback. It’s totally free with no in-app purchases.

It’s for Android smart TVs/set top boxes to control Philips Hue smart lights. Use the app to create shortcuts to Hue lights/scenes and run them from spare buttons on your remote. For example my Sony TV has never-used buttons for HELP, TELETEXT, Netflix, etc - now they turn lights on or off instead.

Once you set up shortcuts and assign a button you can run them any time the TV is on regardless of what you’re watching. Or create a shortcut to the app UI which just slides out over whatever you’re doing and gives you quick access to run other shortcuts.

Search for Hue Shortcuts in the Play Store on your TV or see the store listing here:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.mcneill.hueshortcuts

All feedback/ideas/complaints are welcome. I made this for myself but I hope others like it too. Thanks!

I was just thinking...! If I just can make my Android TV smart enough to map a button on a remote control and send a command to my Hue bridge and switch lights behind TV, and then I realized.. There must be someone like me who already has written this app, and it was you :D

Just tested it on Sony TV XF9005 and it works just perfect. No bugs, just works. So huge thanks!

I'll try it out. Thanks

Holy smokes, this is fantastic! I've been trying to find a way to do this for a while now, and here's your app providing the perfect solution!

I was thinking how annoying it was to use the other apps on the tv to control the hue lights. And wished they made it possible to remap a button to control it.

And there it is, although I have button mapper I hope they don't clash with each other.

I definitely trying this one. Thank you!

Hi,

New Suggest for you,

About Run Shortcut automticaly, is there anyway to assign this function to a app

Per example, when I open Kodi (for play a movie), is there a way that turn off the lights when Kodi is launched?

Thanks in advance

Just logged in into Reddit to say thank you! If you have any option to donate hit me up! Very nice app , very reliable! Automation would be nice but for me the app has everything I need now ! Keep up the good work!

Edit : I found the donate button, enjoy the beer :)

This is great!! I've always wanted this functionality on my Android TV. Will future updates be able control individual lights instead of just the entire room?
