Chromecast built-in not working on Hisense TV

by banjokazooie23

Bought this TV earlier this year with built-in Chromecast. It's never actually functioned and I feel like I must be missing something.

Model name of the TV is HiSmartTV A4, version "9" (I'm guessing that means the Android version?) and software version is from March 2021. It claims this is up to date. Android security patch is from February 2021. It also claims this is up to date. Chromecast built-in is version 1.56.275391 though I also tried factory resetting that and it still didn't work (that gave version 1.44.xxxxxx)

I wish I had any error codes to offer. The TV appears in the list of receivers when we try to cast the Oculus Quest 2, but it returns an "unknown error" that simply recommends restarting the receiver. Well, I have. I've also factory reset it 3x to no avail. Both devices are on the same wifi network. The Oculus was able to cast to my phone easily and immediately so it's not the issue. I've also tried to cast to the TV with other devices (my phone, laptop) and none have worked.

The TV has been on the home screen while we've tried to cast to it and nothing has ever come up on screen to indicate it was trying to connect/be connected to by anything.

I saw someone on here once mention another app called CastReceiver so I downloaded the trial for that to try and still received the same error and the same lack of acknowledgement from the TV.

Am I missing something? Does the TV have some sort of firewall on it? Is there an app missing that needs to be installed?

Any help is appreciated because I've hit a wall on what else to try. Googling hasn't helped- no one else seems to have this issue. Is the TV simply broken?

I would go into settings-apps-ssytem apps and find the Chromecast built in app. Uninstall updates, clear cache and data, and restart the TV see if that helps.

Did you hear about DRM before? If not, let me explain. It means Digital Right Management, and it's a measure of protection for copyright content. So long story in short words....I guess your device is not certified by Google. There is an app that is called DRM Info. It reads what certification have that device. Android TV is an operation system that can be installed on certified devices or uncertified devices. But if th device don't have the right certification, several app doesn't work. Chormecast function need Google certification, Netflix need Google Widevine L1 and Netflix ESN certification. If you don't have both, it won't work. Or if you have Widevine L3 instead L1, will not work in HD, only in SD mode. HBO, Amazon, and basically any other streaming app have this type of copyright protection.

Chromecast function apparently work simply because it's an APK embedded in Android TV system. It is visible to other devices and everything seems to be OK, but cast function don't work. There is no error message, because the app itself work. But before actually start streaming, it make a check to DRM module, and because the proper keys are missing, the hole process stop.

It's possible to be another cause, but if Google Chromecast function don't work, that's the first thing to check! DRM Info offer all information needed. But just keep in mind, DRM LICENSE is installed by factory after some extremely riguros copyright test, and can't be installed by users! Never-never root an Android TV, or try to modify the software in any way. Once that DRM KEY'S are lost, they are lost forever! Nobody can restore them! It's a multi-million dollar investment to combat piracy.

Stay away from Android TV that are not made by big brand. Most of them are not certified. (Like TV with Aptoide app store preinstalled)

Any luck? I have a 75 inch from last year BF. Just got an oculus 2. Same issues. I am pretty sure it's the built in apps of the TV that are sub par. I'm getting a Fire TV cube tomorrow and will try to cast to that. Lots of things I don't like abt the Hisense.

I had the same issues, nothing worked. Of course called Google tv support and it works.

We simply started in the Home app on the phone, I was able to mirror my screen. We then tried to cast from Netflix app and it worked. Just can't explain it.

Though I did go to the system apps on the Google tv and to Chrome cast built in and uninstalled any updates that did happen. I did this before calling Google, so not sure if that was why but it works now on my Hisence tv.
