Do people like the Googletv interface?

by Repulsive-Magazine79

I just got one and I’m pretty disappointed. It’s setup was kinda slow and a bit annoying. The interface is also a bit crap imo… couple of things I’ve encountered which I don’t really look forward to figuring out…

  • recently watched show displays on home screen (that’s good) but clicking it just leads to a partial load of the app and then a return to Home Screen
  • I have to scroll and click much more than I’d like to in order to get to recently downloaded apps… Would be nice to see more than 7 apps listed on the home screen
  • it doesn’t seem to have the ability to connect to free streaming channels without an antenna… rokutv can do this and I think it’s awesome, and I like channels dedicated to showing reruns of individual series from the 80s!!

Tv is a TCL, it was a top pick on wire cutter and I got it on cyber Monday. Price was great, solid source and TCL is usually great. Don’t know how to feel about all of this, I’m a little sad

3rd party launchers are worth the small effort necessary to install them.

That sounds like a bug. When I click on a recently watched show it plays that show.

Agreed. You can reorder them, but given the amount of screen space wasted on things I didn't ask for, it seems crazy that there's not enough room for the things I specifically installed.

It does -- there are a lot of apps that do just that. PlutoTV, IMDB TV, for example. They just aren't installed by default.

I like Android tv interface a lot better.

I like it way better than the Fire interface and generally better than my Samsung TV's interface.

I hate the interface. It always shows ads for Disney and I can not remove that. The so called recommended at the top. You need to put in effort to replace the ads ridden launcher with a normal one. I can understand ads for their own streaming service. But let's just keep it to recommended on only the services I have. I already pay enough to google so why still give me this ad crap.

I'd like it more if it actually showed all apps installed and not only the one it wants to. Why the fuck do I have to navigate to settings or use voice commands to open the play store?? Why doesn't it show every app like android on phones???

There are applications you can install which allow you to create additional customized application categories on the home screen. Search the store for "sideload launcher" and you should find some options.

Formuler GTV ftw. To be honest I'm unsure if it doesn't have the new Google TV interface just because it has an updated yet or because it is an operator tier device.

I think it's very organized save clean. Never had any issues with lag or anything at this mention. I have an Android phone so I love the integration between the phone, tv and Google mini. I hate the fire tv interface and Samsung tvs ui is terrible

How to get it I don't have the updated?

izhar12

Yes I like it

I don't care for any interface without customization options. To me that's the biggest downfall and why I use a 3rd party launcher. Google TV is too busy, there is no way to remove unwanted elements whatsoever. Also I don't need all the help and suggestions. I get what they are trying to do but it's just too much. I prefer the Discover UI over Google UI.
