Receive DVB T2 signal on a Chromecast with Google TV

by roberto84roma

I just have a Chromecast with Google TV and a hub USB. I see that is possible to install the app "Live Channels" on the Google TV:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.tv

That's an app for devices with a tuner TV, to receive the DVB T2 signal. But Chromecast with Google TV hasn't a tuner tv.

The question is: it's possible to connect an external USB receiver to the Chromecast with Google TV? To receive the DVB-T2 signal?

I saw that there are some external receivers for smartphone or tablet, like this:

Is there something similar for Android TV and Chromecast with Google TV? I'd like to see TV channels without internet connection.

Thank you to the people who will give me an answer!

Not sure about that device but I use a HDHomerun, connects to Antenna and then plugs into your router sends video through your neteork. Syncs great with the live channels app and work with any device that has the hdhomerun app (Xbox PlayStation PCs etc. A bit more expensive but I got mine in the sales a few years back, link

I second the HD Home run. I use mine with a plex server so I have inbuilt dvr but you can connect it to a server as well as Chromecast tv app at the same time. The key is getting one with as many tuners as you may want to use at once So for example if you have 4 Chromecast and get a single 4 tuner hd Home run you can watch a different channel on each Chromecast at the same time.

This does work with the Nvidia shield and some usb receivers. However only a few receivers are supported and the supported devices may differ between Nvidia shield and Chromecast.

My method of doing this is a little out there but it is perhaps worth mentioning. I have a 2TB hard disk drive and an Odroid HC2 running Ubuntu server as my NAS. So I connected a 4 port USB hub to the Odroid's single USB port and then 2 USB DVB tuners to the hub. I installed tvheadend server software on the Odroid.

It works similar to a Homerun but it's quite a bit more roll your own. Since I already had the Odroid NAS then adding some USB tuners was cheaper than a Homerun.

I've been using TVHeadend for years, running on a Raspberry Pi3 equiped with a Hauppauge WinTV-dualHD tuner. On the Android devices (mainly a projector with Android TV) I'm using Kodi with tvheadend plugin which works fine.
