Hi,
Anyone have suggestions? There's so many and I don't know what to choose.
This is what I know what I would want:
- Google certified
- Preferably USB 3 and or SD card capabilities. I torrent so putting videos on a USB or SD card to watch via box would be great.
- Because of the videos I would play, multiple codecs would be needed.
- At least 1080p. I saw that some Mecool boxes only have Netflix and Prime video streaming at 480p max?
- In terms of streaming, I have all the regular ones such as Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, ESPN+, HBO, Peacock, etc
- I've seen some boxes at 2 or 4 GB. Will it matter in the long run? I would like to use this for a long time.
- In terms of price, I would consider anything under $100.
IMO there is not really a "great" certified Androidtv fullsize "Box" for under-$100.
If you were instead looking for a certified Androidtv Stick/Dongle then there is the Wal-Mart Onn.4K dongle and the TiVo Stream4K, both at/in Walmart stores in USA for really low prices ($10-$20). The TiVo also has a USB-C port to plug-in a USB-C drive or adapter as needed.
But just looking at your minimum requirements, then I would suggest the Mecool KM2, nobody knows how long that device will be supported with software updates though. So if it lasts 2 years you got your money's worth.
Here is a list of the Google certified Androidtv retail devices that also have the extra requirement of Netflix & PrimeVideo licensing:
