Hi, so what the title says - I'm thinking of selling my LG tv and switching over to Phillips (not sure about the model yet, but this is more about the functionality). I'd love some thoughts on it guys.
So the reason behind it would be:
- Android OS over LG OS. Why - to use my VPN services now I really have to struggle, I bought FireTV stick so I could use my TV with Alexa and also have an option to switch between VPN servers quickly. Problem is, LG doesn't support Alexa (at least in my country, I know right?) so I cannot even turn TV on/off with voice. I can change Netflix shows or switch between Netflix and Prime, but that's something I don't really care about. Phillips TVs seem to work no problem with Alexa (not 100% sure but it looks like it) and has Android therefore I should be able to simply download VPN app (they have one for Android) and use it without FireTV (less cables, less remotes, less struggle);
- Ambient light. I've bought Govee lights with camera hoping that I can attach the LEDs and set the camera and I'll get the same or at least close result to pre-installed LEDs but it's far from reality - camera doesn't really catch all of the colours, it has a delay and overall experience is just not as I want it. TV which comes with ambient light sounds like a much better option here.
So the question is, do any of you have experience with Android OS vs LG OS and can asure me that I am correct and maybe any of use have Phillips with ambient lights and can confirm it is really worth a shot. Any opinions are highly appreciated, thanks!
I'm not keen with Android TV integration on the Philips. I have the 50pus8536. Overall, I am pleased - good value. But, the setup of Android TV and Plex is poor - the sound being passed to my soundbar is incredibly frustrating. To the point I've considered sending it back. I've got an Nvidia shield TV pro on order, maybe that'll fix the problem - and I'm going to try the mobile app again tomorrow (fine tune).
Ambilight makes all this hassle worth it. The first night was really distracting. After that, I don't know how I loved without it. Amazing bit of kit - it changes depending on what is on the screen. Animation is THE BEST but everything looks great.
