Any way to watch a DVD using an external disc drive?

by learningtodiy

I recently got an AndroidTV and want be able to watch DVDs on it. I still like to go to my local library, borrow DVDs, and watch them at home. I would do this using my laptop and an external disc drive. I'm wondering if I can do the same thing with my AndroidTV.

Much easier to just go to a thrift store and just pick up a used player.

Unfortunately, no. I've been wanting to do this with my Shield for ages, and never really found a good way to pull it off.

You're better off just getting a cheap blu-ray player.

Wish it was as easy as that! Gonna need the good old fashioned DVD player or use an Xbox or ps4. Plex is going to be over your head. I wouldn’t discourage it but it requires some spending and tech knowledge.

You should get a cheap gameconsole for that (like a ps3).

If you don't want to buy a video player, then rip the dvd and use plex/emby/jellyfin to stream it or copy the ripped dvd into a pendrive and insert it on your tv.
