Android TV by TCL starts on its own, late at night

by AD-LB

Hello,

I hope I write in the proper place.

I have purchased a new TCL Android TV (model 75C725 ) which has version 11 of the OS.

Very rarely (about once a month or once of 2 months), I noticed that the TV starts itself late at night (near 1:00 or 0:30 or even 2:00), and as YouTube is often the last app that I use before turning off the display, it also plays the video...

How could it be?

I tried to contact TCL via their website, but then they said they provide support to the US only. I tried to contact Google, and after showing them the bug-report file, they said that I should talk with TCL, as they saw this in the logs and believe it's a bug of TCL:

12-11 00:26:14.025 1000 722 2117 I PowerManagerService: Waking up from Asleep (uid=1000, reason=WAKE_REASON_APPLICATION, details=class com.tcl.settings.receiver.TimerManagerBroadcastReceiver)...

Sadly, as I said, TCL doesn't seem to provide support for this.

I also tried to contact the store (which is also the official importer of the TV) about this issue, but they gave me a very weird and unbelievable explanation: It's because Android updates itself or other apps. They told me that a workaround would be to manually update stuff myself every 2 weeks or so, and also turn off "quick-start" feature (meaning the TV will be completely turned off each time I turn off the display).

Has anyone here ever got this issue, on TCL or other Android-TV's based TV ?

Disable sleep timer, I mean where you select after which time with no activity tv turns off. I had this problem on another TCL android model and disabling sleep timer fixed it

I had a similar problem with a Sony TV, where it was actually doing a hard reboot at random times (with some consistency with usage patterns), due to a faulty power supply board. The Youtube video resuming though makes me think it's something else.

Have you tried disabling Wake On LAN / Wake on HDMI function ?

My Panasonic TV has this function but during remote control of my raspberry pi ( hooked up to TV ) it automatically starts TV.

you must be using fast boot, which actually put the tv on sleep mode instead of turned off. So something running in the background could trigger it to wake up. if you don't need the fast boot, turn it off in settings.

I'd check your Google security permissions too. Bet you'll find a TCL Beyond. If you delete it, you'll find you loose access to your Google home.

As to your actual question I agree that it's probably a badly implemented update check.

Edit: typo

I had just saw an article the other day about Best Buy pulling TCL Android TV sets out of stores due to hardware issues.

Lol. Have you heard about the unregulated sensors on android devices? You can take the gyro of a phone and because it's so sensitive it can pick up sound waves from your tv which move the phone which can tell what you're watching to link what you're watching to your advertising id. google aint letting you turn off that tv lol (j/k)

I got an android tv too from tcl. i love it so much i don't use it. they're supposed to be fixing some bugs next year. tcl is great.

Mine did the same when I enabled the TV remote on my android phone... did a quick search and I couldnt unlink them, so I dida a factory reset and that fixed it.
