Will an Android box make my TCL android tv run faster?

by kudru

I need some advice on whether it's worth buying an Android box for the purpose of making my existing TCL android tv run faster, and boot faster.

There is a lot of advice and recommendations on the performance and user interface upgrade one gets by plugging in an Android box on any tv (this i get). But I am concerned whether the original TV boot up time is also reduced by the new box? Does my smart TV boot up as usual and then the android box comes in to picture ? I am a bit confused with this and would really appreciate some tips whether it would be worth buying an Android box for this or not. Currently my TCL tv takes around a 45sec to a min to boot up.

(I have already tried the tips to make my TCL tv boot faster with instant on and cleaning cache etc..doesn't do much)

I have 3 smart TVs with Android TV that I never use. I have two Nvidia Shield TVs, and an Onn Streaming box and couldn't care less about the Android TV within my TV.

Be sure that you enable CEC and Quick On or something like that in you TV. Use your streaming box remote to turn it on, and TV will turn on directly on your streaming box input. As easy as that.

Is this a new tv, I just read that there is a fix coming out.

You won't be using Android TV on the TV anymore so the speed will be specific to the capbilities of the device you put on it. It won't change boot time or anything but you should be letting teh TV sleep anyway instead of powering it down all the time.

You can try resetting your TCL Android TV and not connect it to wifi. I don’t know if this will make it faster or not but I’m pretty sure you do not need the smart features of the TCL Android TV when you got an Android TV box.

We have issues with all Android boxes and our TCL TV. CCwGTV and Onn UHD both had issues in one way or another that they don't have when connected to other TV. It's just weird.

You specify the port that your box is connected too on your smart TV (or it might figure it out itself) and that's it. The TV will start but you'll only see the box booting up and yes it will most likely blow away the performance of your smart TV.

Do you fully power off your TCL TV (at the wall)? If you use the power button on the remote to put it to sleep, it should wake up in a few seconds.
