Roku (TCL) vs Android TV (Hisense)

by sheera3308

So I've had a TCL with Roku for a little over a year, but only because I couldn't find any Hisense Android TV in stock. I was coming from an old non-smart TV. I just knew I like Google so if like Android TV..

Anyways a couple weeks back I got a Hisense (U6G) with Android TV and there are a few key features missing that's making me have second thoughts. Could not figure out via Google if I'm missing something in settings.

  1. I cannot figure out how to turn on the Hisense TV via mobile app. I can turn off, but not turn on. The Google TV app doesn't find my TV unless I turn it on via the remote. My Roku tv can turn on and off with the Roku app. I have the (wake via LAN and wifi on)

  2. This new TV is next to they kids room so the ability to plug in headphones in my phone to listen to the TV audio would be a great feature, which is on the Roku app, but not Google TV app. Anything I'm missing here?

You may need to enable Wake on WiFi on the Developer Options which you can access by clicking the Build Info 7 times.

I've had the same issue. I can turn on via casting something to the TV. Also using google assistant to turn on the TV sometimes works. You can tell assistant to play youtube on the TV for example.

  1. You cannot turn on the TV (or any Android TV device) using the phone remote.
  2. That's a Roku-exclusive feature.
