Mkv files stuttering on Android tv box

by Key_Cost8039

English is not my mother language so I will try my best to explain. I just got a new tv box and when I try to play this kind of videos, the videos will pause for a second, the audio cuts off for a bit too. The video looks fine. I have tried many apps from the playstore I've used kodi, vlc etc but the results are the same.

Is this a configuration issue? What kind of player do I need? The tv box os is android 9.0 with 2gb of ram.

Only the mkv files will give issues, I can play other files just fine.

I hope you can help me, thanks in advance.

Have you tried MXPlayer?

What's the model of the box? Do you know the codec the MKV files are using?

MKV is a container for different video codecs.

If your video is in VC-1 codec, NO Amlogic devices will play that codec.

You can check the codec using VLC or preferably "Mediainfo".

If you are playing your own media from an external source, you can use CoreELEC. CoreELEC will play everything you have.

It is an operating system that runs on a SD/microSD card.

Are you running VLC on the box, or trying to stream to it from your phone? As others noted, it might not understand the MKV container or be a bit weak in the cpu. I have near complete failure on H.265 mkv files when I try to push video from VLC on my phone, but my Chromecast TV device has no problem when it is installed as a local app.
