Alternative to live TV app

by juggalojcox

Ok so with the Live TV app You're able to add some sources like hdhomerun and photo TV. This works great but I am a little off pit by the lack of sources that you are able to use. I would like to find an alternative just like the live TV app to integrate HD home run and say the foxnow app and ABC app and NBC and many more. I have seen a lot of these IPTV apps but none seem to do what I am trying to do. I feel like there has to be something out there that does this cause I do pay for cable but they don't have a streaming app for the service and I only have 1 HD homerun prime and I don't think my provider offers cable cards any longer. And downloading 100 apps to get all my channels isn't an issue it's just not an elegant way to go through watching tv. Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated.

You'll have to pay a subscription but the closest you're going to get is Channels DVR with TV Everywhere. You can include most services that have logins but you won't get all channels. Look it up and see what it does and doesn't cover. I think there is a trial you can try.

I'm totally confused too. I like my Chromecast with Google tv. I'd like to get a 4k tv but I do not see an easy way of using an antenna on a Google smart tv and have it integrated with a grid guide and streaming services and the end result is I may not be buying a new 4k smart google tv because it isn't that smart.

At this point, your limited to apps that can see and view channels from the HDHomerun and this would be either Kodi or VLC

With VLC you simply browse to the HDHomerun device and select a channel. No real customization.

With Kodi, you need to add the PVR HDHomerun add-on. A TV menu should soon appear and download 2-3 days worth of TV Channel Guide. From there you should be able to customize it all you want. Create groups that are Sports Only, News Only, 1080p only, etc.
