Adaptive streaming, is there a way to request higher quality stream from server?

by Afraid-Community5725

I am using ZDF app (German TV channel) on My Android TV (Google TV ver 9), however the app is requesting/or the server is pushing only SD streams of an Live Stream or Archived stream.

Via Kodi addon for the same site (ZDF) for Live stream I am able to get (it is still auto quality detection) 1 level higher resolution but still not HD. For archived content on ZDF site I am able to select both 720p and 1080p quality streams manually via Kodi.

Is there a way to persuade ZDF app or server via any settings setup to request higher quality stream automatically so there is no need to go to Kodi?

Thank you

Michal

Well ZDF should have support on this, right? Do they offer HD streams on all platforms or just some? Usually AndroidTVs is cleared in terms of security, so would be odd if ZDF choose to limit it to SD on the big screen.

What can happen is a security license/approval is not renewed for your specific piece of hardware by Google (there is a process), and then no streams in higher quality than SD will be allowed. This happens all the time because hardware manufacturers stop supporting and updating their devices with new software.

Do you use AndroidTV 9? They are up to AndroidTV 12 now, so could be an old device?
