The HBO Max app is extremely poorly coded. I would bet just about anything the issue is with that app and not Google Play. Open a ticket with HBO and keep doing it until it gets resolved.
Get syncler+ and real debrid and just call it a day. When pay subscription services don’t even give you what you pay for and limit everything it’s just so much better as a consumer to do things on your own
