Removing the "movies" and "TV" ads from Google TV

by dundun92_DCS

Is there are way to remove the "Movies" and "Shows" page, and ads of the "For you" page of the Google TV (or, at the very least, stop it from defaulting to to this page and default to library/apps page instead). I have about zero interest in anything displayed there and would prefer not to see it (I only really use youtube and HDMI input on it), and do not want to have to scroll through it every time, or have it default to it when you turn on the TV.

If you blacklist androidtvwatsonfe-pa.googleapis.com in you dns then clear cache it will then only show ads for youtube and the playstore.

Is the best you can do now.

These ads keep getting worse. I'm now seeing a Disney plus banner with video. Next it'll be full on commercials with cranked up sound.

3rd party launcher. Instruction and files can be found here. https://www.techdoctoruk.com/launcher-manager-for-android-tv-fireos-6/

If you want the classic ATV launcher you can install windscribe vpn and selectively vpn the home screen apps to Romania. You'll get the classic ATV launcher and your streaming apps will work normally.

Techdoctor on YouTube will hook you up.

i think we should exchange our countries. In my country i dont get any of this tab

You should buy a vpn and use that country which does not have these tabs

It drives me nuts, at the bottom of the screen it then says - control the services you want to see here; well yes, only Netflix is turned on as it is the only service i have and i'm not interested in Disney+, Amazon, etc.
Why even show all this stuff i have no subscription too and explicitly turned off, horrible.

There is a easy way to remove the ads. On system app settings, just disable Android updates notifications. Also on Override Apps, disable Android Update Notifications, this last part is essential. That way the ads are gone. The downside is no more notifications of future updates.

This works, at least in Android 9. Didn't try on Android 11.

I can live with Google tv as it is but I would give it a 10 if a row for widgets could be added...

First of all, they're "tabs".

Second, I don't think you can edit the tabs, but you can always install a 3rd party launcher.

I have rolled back to the previous Android version and switched off auto update.
