I wanted something i could torrent, use vpn, browse the internet, use spotify with. Basically all the stuff i use my laptop with whilst on the TV but without actually using it. I wanted to free up my laptop for other things.

Does any android box do all of that? They all use the same OS is my assumption.

Also if i can torrent, can it do it into a usb/hdd? My mate told me if something has integrated flash drive itll run hot and reduce its life time.
I really don't recommend torrent, browsing on a TV screen, using a remote. It's slow and the processor in a set top box isn't really powerful enough to load heavy pages.
Those boxes can handle a VPN app, but Netflix has a way to detect it, and block the content from playing anyway.
Just plug a small PC to your TV based on what you want to do.
