If it is wired, plug the USB-A cable into a USB-A plug on the back. There are a dozen little apps for testing if the gamepad works once plugged in, but it should also work like a little remote in the Main System UI if it is working.
So you can test it by just moving around the menu with the sticks or cross-pad, and usually A for select/enter and B for cancel/back. However, different pads will map their buttons differently to standard USB-HID profile, so you may get some wonky stuff with some games with backwards button mapping or select/start/etc mapping being weird, or with R2/L2 (shoulder trigger buttons) being only digital and not analog for throttle in some games.
If it doesn't work it doesn't work. There's no way to add support or drivers.
