Mecool KM2 will have a update?

by Confident-Effort-103

I have a Mecool Km2 but the Android Security parch level is on February 5, 2021.

Did anyone knows if Mecool is good doing updates or is the one you have to buy the last tvbox to have AndroidTV updated

Thanks

Update:

Well Mecool was answer me that they don’t have plan to update AndroidTV 11 … what a joke.. first and last time do I buy or recommend this brand

I think you already answered your own question. Your device hasn't had a security update in over a year - how much less support do you need evidence of before concluding they are not good at doing updates?

Stop buying from those companies that don't support their devices with updates. For the price they charge, others on the same price point will update their devices (Xiaomi, Amazon, Google etc)

Mecool have a habit of not updating their devices unfortunately.

I have Mecool KM2 for about 8 months and no update was released during this time. But I don't actually even need it since everything is working fine.

Which build of the OS does your device have?

I've seen at least 4 builds for the KM2:

  1. MECOOL/HP4035-Mecool/LAS:10/QTT5.200429.010/C2.0.2_20210331:user/release-keys
  2. MECOOL/HP4035-Mecool/LAS:10/QTT5.200819.003/C2.0.6_20210408:user/release-keys
  3. MECOOL/HP4035-Mecool/LAS:10/QTT5.200819.003/C2.0.6_20210420:user/release-keys
  4. MECOOL/HP4035-Mecool/LAS:10/QTT5.200819.003/C2.0.6_20210526:user/release-keys

But nothing newer than the 20210526 build. I don't notice any differences among any of the above builds.

Mecool generally doesn't do OTA updates, probably because of the expense of either paying google to do it via google play services, or paying the server costs for Mecool to do it themselves. Mecool generally only does updates by supplying an update zip file for the user to install via the local update option in the settings menu. But Mecool apparently won't do this for the KM2.

Now, keep in mind that the Mecool KM2 is the Strong Leap S1, and a bunch of other devices are also the Strong Leap S1 (besides the Leap S1 itself) including the Thomson THA100, the Atlanta ColoVU, and the Coocaa ATBOX001 AI PRO, amongst others. I don't know what build of the OS any of these devices have, or whether or not any of them do OTA updates, or whether or not any of these other firmwares will install on the KM2.

The long and short of it is that your KM2 will probably have the version of the firmware that it came with for all eternity, unless Mecool gives you a update zip file after a request.

Some may not like this policy, but I kind of like not having OTA updates forced upon my device. And the KM2 doesn't really seem to have any bugs or feature shortcomings, and security updates are less of an issue on a tv box (as compared to a phone), so I'm fine with having a static version of the OS.

Hi! Just updating that indeed, due to a temporary issue with the Google Play Store, our app wasn't anymore available for certain Android TV devices.

any news about the other devices mentioned above like THA100 ? i just checked in Thomson website and there is no firmware to download. i do not know what to buy. Tha100 from amazon for about 53 euros or Km2 from Banggood for 63 euros?

Except that are they better from Mi box s and why? i would prefer something with Av1 hardware support but i can not find with Chromecast built in and 4k or at least 1080 guaranteed support without changing Apk frequently.
