Sony XBR65X850F did a software update..not has issue turning on

by terryjohnson16

Our Sony Bravia XBR65X850F was fine when it had Google TV. I like to not update the software often to prevent software breakage issues that can happen with updating. Well I decided to update and it updated to Android TV. It says android version 9 now. Before it had 8. After updating to 9, my tv shows “android tv” and has these colorful circle things spinning when you turn the tv on. Then it will either shut off and I have to turn it back on.

Other times when I go to watch tv, it wont turn on at all from the remote. I have to keep hitting the power button on the remote to get it to finally respond. It didnt do this before updating to android 9.

Whats going on? My tv is in warranty.

I recommend resetting the TV to factory settings, upgrading from 8 to 9 always had issues with every TV or device that went through that update process, you'll have a fresh system that works better with 9 than with 8.

No other updates pending? Did you open the app store to make sure all apps are upto date as well? I've had issue after firmware upgrades that got solved by actually apps being updated.

I can't say I've had those exact issues, but I have had update related issues with my XBR65X900E... and after the last update, I was plagued with frequent reboots. A lot of times, I'd turn on the TV, it would come on for 5 seconds, and then reboot. Other times, I was in the middle of watching TV (cable, not a streaming app), and it would reboot.

As of the other day, it will not even turn on anymore. Not with the remote, or the power button on the side. I've tried all the "tricks"... but it's dead. A few weeks out of extended warranty. Not sure if it's related or coincidental component failure. Either way, my next TV will not be Android.

I love my Android phone... but Android TV/Google TV is a hot mess.

If it’s under warranty give them a call and get it fixed, in my case with a similar issue after updating they had to replace the main board due to the software getting corrupted, apparently.

They also advised to only update over a wired network connection as doing it over WiFi can, also apparently, cause this.
