Anyone tried sideloading Ookla Speedtest app?

by Deadpool-fan-466

We know that "Speedtest by Ookla" app isn't "officially" available for Android TV devices.

However, according to apkmirror , the app "supports Android TV" since version 4.4.29 (December 2019). Probably because of some play store issues, it's not available there yet.

So if anyone tried sideloading the apk, please do share your opinions/feedback.

Edit : Not looking for alternatives/suggestions (should've included it originally)

All that I've tried won't let me past the intro screen because it won't respond to mouse

Also going to https://fast.com in a browser on Android TV should be a good alternative (haven't tried it yet).

Check Speed Test WiFi Analyzer by analiti : https://analiti.com/

There are cast-based speed testers as an alternative.

I just use Alaliti Wi-Fi analyser . It works just as well as Speed Test and offers more data.

The Ookla speedtest works well. You would need a mouse or a cursor app to make it work.

My ISP Spectrum relies on the Ookla speed test and only trust it for in home diagnostics.

As far as side loading goes; you can use the amazon app, aptoide apps, uptodown app, archive.org and downloader, all of these I used, successfully.

Why not download a browser, like Odin, and go to the website?

Do you have Kodi installed? Use Speedtest addon

yes you do have to use a mouse and I have to use a mouse on other apps too. I have and use both a USB and BT (Bluetooth) keyboards and a BT mouse that is connected / paired to my shield. So frankly I did not think about the mouse issue.

Oh well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
